panic! at the disco review
Hello everyone! So as some of you may know by now, Panic! at the Disco has just released 2 new singles for their new album 'Pray for the Wicked.' As I have already listened to the songs about 4 times each in the 30 minutes they have been released, I thought that I might just do a review.
1. (F**k A) Silver Lining
This song took me by surprise. It starts out with a distorted voice, and then quickly jumps into an upbeat song. It already had me dancing, and falling in love with the song. It is surely different than anything else Brendon has ever made, but it is still so unique. From the way he hits the high notes perfectly in the backing vocals, to the way he has the jazzy music.
The lyrics are very creative, and not something you would normally hear on the radio. A 'silver lining' is the brighter side to a problem. So he is essentially saying that he doesn't want a happy ending ('fuck a silver lining'). One of my favorite lyrics would be 'it's just cherries, cherries, everything is cherries on top.' Of course, I am not really sure what he meant it to be, but I take it as him saying that his life is perfect, and there is no bad in it. I mean, if you listen to the lyrics he does talk about how he 'fell to the top.'
This song was super amazing, and I am very happy that this is what sets off the whole album.
2. Say Amen (Saturday Night)
This song leaps into a bit of a more electronic beat. It seems as if it's gonna be another one of those pop sounding songs. Then it takes you by surprise with a total different sound for the chorus. It sounds a bit more like a song you might hear on 'Death of a Bachelor.' It has a bit of jazz, but also a pop feel to it. So once again, Brendon is practically creating another music style that I can't explain.
The lyrics are super amazing, and make me wanna sing along. He is talking about changing his life, and not wanting to change into someone he doesn't wanna be. I take this song to be about how people tell you to do this, or wear that, or stop doing that. And he is saying he doesn't wanna repent, or change himself for others. Although he also talks about wanting to be better, and how if he had a wish he might just be better. So maybe this song is about how he wishes he could change, but knows that it would do him no better.
Also can we talk about the high note in this song? He hits it practically effortlessly, and it sounds fantastic.
I love the new songs a lot, and believe that this album is gonna be outstanding.
