Writing
Writing is something I find extremely hard. If you follow this blog, or keep track of it at all, you may have noticed that I haven't posted in forever. That is because writers block is a pain. Of course I could be like any basic person and make an excuse. Hey! I got a job, so I can't write much anymore. Or maybe something more like, oh, school started up again and I've been struggling. Yet, despite the job and school I do have plenty of free time. So, I will be truthful. Lately, I haven't had much to write about. Whether it be for a book, or for my blog. So, I am now making this post to whine and complain about how hard writing is. Also I have no basis for this post so I might get sidetracked.
Now, writing is honestly one of the more complex things to do. I mentioned before working on a book. I was doing fairly well, then it crashed. I haven't worked on that book, nor even looked at it in months. It's sad actually, as I was making something. Especially since it was something in my interest, and I was so happy that I was writing it. Sometimes I think about it, and I feel guilt. Why didn't I finish it? Was it because there wasn't anywhere else to go in the story? Was it cause of my lack of ideas? Were the characters not developed enough. All of those are things I could fix. I could backtrack my story and rewrite a few scenes. Or, update the characters to better develop them. Make a backstory for them. Make some more side characters. Yet, it all seems to be a hard thing to do. What can I possibly do to make another side character? I already gave them best friends! What else do I need to go into deep detail on? Writing is complex.
Here is the gist of my story so far. You may look at it and all its shittiness.
Chapter 1:
The light crept through Miku’s window as morning had just arrived. Miku slowly sat up, stretching and giving a small yawn. It just so happened to be Saturday, meaning she wouldn’t have to get up and get ready for another boring school day. Although, she did have to get ready. Her best friend Hikaru was coming over to take her to go shopping. It would act as a birthday present, as her 16th birthday was just 4 days ago.
As Miku stood up, she gave a small smile. She honestly couldn’t wait for Hikaru to arrive. Hikaru was a great friend. Always smiling and happy, and always very supportive. Hikaru was Miku’s best friend, and they were almost always seen together. Laughing, smiling, having fun. They were a great pair.
Miku started getting ready. Brushing her teeth and hair, changing out of her pyjamas, and getting her bag ready. She always carried around a messenger bag with her art supplies. She pulled her long black hair back into a ponytail and started to doodle while waiting for her friend.
About five minutes of doodling later, Miku’s doorbell rang. She stood up, smiling, and walked to the door. She opened the door to be greeted by none other than Hikaru. Her smile widened as Hikaru grinned and wrapped his arms around Miku in a hug.
“Hikaru! How have you been?” Miku asked, stepping aside to let her friend in.
“Miku, you know I’ve been doing great, but my day has gotten a whole lot better after seeing you!” Hikaru smiled, stepping into his friend’s house. “You ready to go?”
Miku smiled, grabbing her bag and nodding. “Let’s go!”
And with that, the pair left the house, smiling and giggling. Hikaru fussed slightly with his hair, which was brown and shaved on the sides and back. His deep brown eyes sparkled when he smiled, and that smile was dazzling.
Miku loved hanging out with Hikaru. The way he was always so confident, and not caring what other people thought about him...it was really inspiring to her. Miku couldn’t help but look up to Hikaru. He was the only person she could really trust with anything. She knew damn well that she could tell Hikaru literally anything, and he would still be her closest friend. It always made her smile to think how Hikaru would never judge her.
“What stores will we be going to?” Miku asked, looking up at Hikaru as the pair walked.
“Oh, just whatever stores are in the mall. I can’t really name specifics…” he said, giving a slight shrug.
As Miku walked alongside Hikaru, she just couldn’t get over how beautiful the scenery was. She lived in the beautiful town of Odawara, and it just so happened to be the perfect season for cherry blossoms. As her and Hikaru walked, the cherry blossoms seemed to rain down. It was all so beautiful that it made Miku smile widely. Even though she was a local to this town, she could always notice how beautiful it all was.
Hikaru noticed how Miku was staring at the cherry blossoms falling from the tree, and he gave a small chuckle.
“You know, you should just be used to seeing these trees. Everytime you look at them, it’s as if you’ve never seen them before.” Hikaru said with a small smile. His words caused Miku to snap out of her trance and look at him.
“Well I just think that cherry blossoms are the most beautiful thing ever,” she said as they crossed over a bridge, “I mean look at how they fall into the water and just float away. Everything in this town is so pretty. How could one ever get tired of it?” She said with a small laugh, walking across the bridge. Hikaru followed, grinning at how happy Miku looked. He loved seeing his best friend smile.
The pair of friends finally reached the mall after a 20 minute walk. Although, Miku didn’t mind the walk at all. She was always one who loved to get outside, whether it be on a walk or just to go sit and have some snacks. She was already having a good day, and she knew that Hikaru was as well.
Miku walked inside of the busy mall, Hikaru following closely behind her. She looked around, debating what store to enter. She figured Pastel would be a lovely store to visit, as she usually got her perfumes there. She knew they carried sweets and other cute things that she might like. So, she dragged Hikaru into the store.
She looked around, admiring the lovely atmosphere of the store, and taking the smell of the perfumes people had sprayed to smell. Miku couldn’t help but smile even wider, looking at Hikaru.
“Get anything you want!” He said, not even giving a price range. Miku knew his family was pretty rich, but that didn’t stop her from checking every price tag and ignoring any item that she deemed too high of a price.
After walking around the store for a good half hour, Miku decided on buying a bunch of snacks and a new perfume. She also got some small figurines that she knew where mostly for tourists, but she collected them anyway. She held her stuff in a small pink bag, grinning.
“What store next?” Hikaru asked, looking around the mall curiously. Soon enough, his eyes landed back onto Miku, making the both of them smile.
“Well, I was thinking maybe we could go into the pet store and just look.” She said, tilting her head towards the pet store called One Love. Hikaru grinned along with Miku, the two of them both loving pets. Hikaru already had a cat though, and Miku’s parents rather not deal with any animals in there home.
They both began to walk to the pet shop, already hearing the faint meow of a cat, and the barking of a dog. As soon as they walked inside, Miku began to smile. The lady at the front welcomed them, and they began to look around the shop.
“Awe, look at all the cats!” Miku said, although her eyes were attached to one pure white kitten. She seemed to really like that kitten a lot. As the kitten mewed at Miku, and began to walk over to her, she grinned. The owner of the shop must have noticed her immediate attachment to the small kitten as she soon walked over.
“That would be Yuki.” the lady said, giving Miku and Hikaru a smile.
“You can hold her if you want. She loves being held.” As soon as those words were spoken, Miku was picking up the cat. She held the small kitten close to her chest. The cat purred, and mewed, pawing slightly at Miku.
“Oh, you have to be the cutest kitten I have ever seen!” Miku exclaimed, eyes sparkling at the sight of the cute creature. It was too bad that she wouldn’t be able to buy it. She wished her parents were less strict on pets. This would be the best present ever, just to have Yuki to herself to play with and pet.
Hikaru couldn’t help but grin at Miku’s playfulness with the cat. He loved cats himself, and wished he could have more. Although his parents might not object, he knew that Miku would be even more jealous if he happened to get another pet.
There we go. Chapter 1 was all I ever got to. I am pretty sure I had up to 5 chapters then got frustrated and deleted them all. Oh, the curse of writers block. Please, leave me ideas on how to fix this god awful story. I will accept any help, from anyone.

I think we have all experience writer's block, but we all "get back on the horse" eventually. I think your best course of action is to step back, do something else you enjoy (learn a new hobby,) or start a new project. Writing seems to be one of your passions, but sometimes we need to take a long break to grow, at least that's what happened to me.
